President’s Message
It would be difficult to imagine a world without art. The creative spirit has shaped, designed, and created much of what we value in our visual world. Humans have interpreted virtually every facet of daily life, since our early beginnings, with art. The artist today explores traditional art-making combined with what seems to be unlimited technology and multimedia imaging. It is truly an incredible time to be an artist.
At Northwest College of Art our faculty, staff, students, graduates, and advisory board members support our philosophy, that “art is both a business and a passion.” The born creative genius is rare. Rather, at NCA, professional artists are created through a sequential and comprehensive curriculum; a knowledgeable and professional faculty; students who want to be extraordinary; a campus environment that is inspiring and supportive to the creative spirit and a dual emphasis on individualism and job placement.
Artists must make art. We must create to be happy. But we must be knowledgeable, develop a strong sense of curiosity, be aware of both traditional techniques and current technology, and have the courage to be truly original. Through Northwest College of Art’s B.F.A. degree majors in Design, Fine Art, and Multimedia, you will define your own creative direction, build a marketable portfolio, and develop a style that is extraordinary.

College Artist’s Winning Design Sails Into Viking Fest
“A graceful Viking ship at sea will be the image depicted on all of the Viking Fest T-shirts, buttons, promotional materials and other memorabilia this year.
“The work is the creation of artist Brian Call, a senior at Northwest College of Art and the winner of this year's Barbara Krell Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is presented to the art school each year by the Viking Fest Corp.
“The $1,000 scholarship, now in its eighth year, is given in honor of Barbara Krell, who died in 2000. Krell was a longtime supporter of Viking Fest, as well as a talented amateur artist and active member of the Poulsbo Artist League.”—Poulsbo Sun
